Nearly all of the community’s working residents commute into D.C. or various other suburbs. Countless government workers and members of the military call Aquia Harbour home. Fort Belvoir is roughly 28 miles north, and Quantico is even closer, at 13 miles north. For those working at NSF Dahlgren, the distance is approximately 38 miles.
Most residents commute north, where the traffic can be very heavy. You’ll probably rely solely on your personal vehicle for transportation, as the closest VRE train station to Aquia Harbour is Brooke Station, which is about a 15 minute drive south. However, there is a VDOT Commuter Lot just a short drive from the entrance of Aquia Harbour, which will certainly help those who are able to coordinate a ride-share.
The community is made up of 2,100 homes that are situated on 31 miles of private roads. There is a wide variety of home types, sizes, styles, and prices in Aquia Harbour. Public Schools in the area are considered above average, and there are several private schools in the region to choose from. Banks, restaurants, pharmacies, grocers, hotels, and several big-name stores are a short drive from the entrance of Aquia harbor. Also just outside the gates is Aquia Church - a National Historic Landmark and one of the oldest colonial churches still in use.
