Amazing Location

Living in Stafford puts you in the heart of everything Northern Virginia has to offer, but it still feels very quiet and peaceful. Interstate 95 is easily accessible from town, so you can get wherever you need to go very quickly.

It is particularly popular for military members who are stationed at Quantico, as it is just a 20-minute drive away. For those who work in Washington D.C., Stafford is approximately one hour away by car. Other popular Virginia towns like Richmond, Charlottesville, and Fredricksburg are all within an hour’s drive as well.

There’s no shortage of things to do in Stafford and the surrounding area. You’ll find plenty of excellent dining options in Stafford as well as in nearby Fredricksburg, which is known for its food scene. There are plenty of casual options as well as some fine dining for a special night out. Stafford County also has an excellent selection of wineries and breweries to choose from.

In terms of recreation, Stafford has plenty to offer for both children and adults. There are multiple golf clubs as well as public pools and splash pads. There are parks conveniently located throughout the town with playgrounds, sports fields, and walking trails. One of the most popular parks in the area is Government Island, which has a beautiful boardwalk trail running along Aquia Creek. For those who love to shop, the Potomac Mills mall is just a short drive north as well.

Rich History

The Stafford County area was one of the first places that European settlers visited when they came to the United States. The county charter has been in place for over 350 years. As a result, there are plenty of charming historic homes and businesses in the area. However, this doesn’t mean Stafford is stuck back in time - the county is working to develop a modern downtown area that would bring in new businesses and provide more housing options.

Some notable historic sites in the area include the Stafford Courthouse and Stafford Civil War Park. Another key historic site is Aquia’s Landing, which is where English settlers landed in the 17th century and where thousands of southern slaves self-emancipated during the Civil War.

Natural Beauty

Another reason so many people love the Stafford area is its natural beauty. The area is full of beautiful foliage and rolling hills. No matter what time of year it is, the area is absolutely stunning. During the spring and summer, residents enjoy hiking, biking, and boating in the area’s many nature preserves. The Crow’s Nest Natural Area is located right on the Potomac River and has a network of beautiful trails and a boat launch.

The Northern Virginia area is also an amazing place to see fall foliage. The area really comes alive with bright colors during this time. While it can get cold in the winter, there are ski resorts approximately two hours away in the Shenandoah Mountains.

The Northern Virginia area is growing economically and there are job opportunities here in a variety of industries. The tech industry has seen particularly strong growth in this area in recent years. The Stafford area is also a great place for business owners. The local government provides tax breaks and other financial incentives for entrepreneurs.

For families with children, the Stafford County school district is very well-regarded. Elementary, middle, and high schools are conveniently located throughout the district. The area also offers higher education opportunities, with both community colleges and private universities.
