Location

Springfield is a charming suburban town about 15 miles southwest of DC, where you’ll have easy access to the interstate, and the drive to the Pentagon can take as little as 15 minutes. And with a metro station in the heart of the city, your commute can be less of a hassle. In fact, it's one of the easiest commutes by train there is to the Pentagon.

Housing

In general, the further you travel from DC, the less expensive housing becomes. However, homes in Springfield are competitively priced. When you’re looking at homes for sale, you’ll discover many large colonial-style brick homes as well as nicely remodeled mid-century homes. Most of the single-family homes have between three to five bedrooms and sit on a quarter to a half an acre of land. Some of the best neighborhoods include Lakewood Hills, Newington Station, Keene Mill Station, Westview Hills, and King’s Park. There’s even quite a few new-construction homes popping up in the area. The new-construction homes in Springfield are much more costly, with prices starting at around one million dollars.

If living in a convenient location is your biggest priority, the Springfield Town Center area is a popular one and consists of multiple shopping centers, office complexes, and a large medical center. The Franconia-Springfield Metro station and commuter rail both stop in this area, making it quick and easy to get to the Pentagon without driving. Although there is a lot going on in this part of town, it doesn’t have an urban feel. Most of the properties are single-family homes with three to five bedrooms and large yards.

If you’re in the market for a townhome, Charlestown Townhouses in West Springfield is worth a look. The drive to the Pentagon from this area of town is about 20 minutes depending on traffic. These are brick townhomes with three bedrooms and over 2,000 square feet of living space, and prices start in the $500’s. Newington Forest is yet another lovely townhome community in Springfield. Nestled in the southwest corner of the city, these homes are more reasonably priced, starting in the high-300’s.
