Let’s take a look at some of the best neighborhoods in Fairfax County.

1. Downtown Fairfax

Downtown Fairfax is one of the most popular neighborhoods to live in. This is the historic center of town, with some buildings dating back to the mid-19th century. Downtown Fairfax is sometimes also referred to as Old Town Fairfax.

If you’re looking to live in an area with plenty of charm, downtown Fairfax is an excellent choice. It’s more walkable than many other areas, and there’s a good selection of restaurants and shops worth checking out. For families in this area, there are schools located very close by.

Homes in this area are a mix of new construction and old historic structures, and pricing here is going to be a little bit higher than other parts of Fairfax. Property types range from compact townhomes to sprawling single-family homes. Buyers have plenty of variety to choose from in this area.

2. Kings Park West

Kings Park West is located south of downtown Fairfax and is very close to George Mason University. This makes it an excellent choice if you are looking for a short commute to campus. Kings Park West is also close to the Burke Center commuter rail stop, which takes riders directly into Washington D.C.

The homes in Kings Park West are relatively spread out from one another, providing plenty of privacy. Many properties also have very large yards with large trees. There are also several parks and hiking trails in this area for residents that like to spend time outside.

Most properties in Kings Park West are single-family homes with three to four bedrooms. While there is some new construction in this neighborhood, most homes here are at least 20 years old.

3. Fair Lakes

If you’re looking for new construction, Fair Lakes is a neighborhood worth checking out. This area has been booming with new developments in recent years. Most of the properties here are modern townhomes with 2 to 3 bedrooms. It’s an excellent choice for any resident looking for a vibrant community. However, it may not be the best option if you’re looking for privacy.

Fair Lakes is one of the biggest commercial centers in the Fairfax area. Residents are very close to the Fair Oaks Mall and the surrounding shopping centers. If you need a break from all the hustle and bustle, there’s also a golf club and a park with a small lake and walking trails.

4. Mantua

Mantua is a great neighborhood for anyone that wants to commute using the Washington D.C. Metro system. The Vienna Orange Line stop is nearby, which makes it easy to get into the city quickly.

This is another area that is full of new construction. You’ll find several new townhome communities located near the Metro station, some of which cater to adults over the age of 55. There are also many single-family homes in Mantua.

Mantua Park offers beautiful scenery and walking trails for residents, and the Army-Navy Golf Club is also located in this area. There’s a shopping center conveniently located in the center of the neighborhood where residents can buy groceries and other essentials.

There’s a lot to love about the Fairfax area. While it’s conveniently located close to Washington D.C., it has a more relaxed, suburban feel.
