We find Old Town Alexandria to be one of the most convenient places to live if you’re stationed at the Pentagon - it’s just five miles away. The commute time depends on traffic, which can be heavy in Northern Virginia. There is a Metro Station right in Old Town, and by train, the trip to the Pentagon takes less than 15 minutes.
Old Town is an in-demand and walkable neighborhood, and there’s a lot to see and do. You’ll mostly find historic townhomes with a lot of character, but you can also find condos or sale as well. It is worth noting that you will pay a premium to be close to all of the amenities that the Potomac waterfront area has to offer. You should also take a look at some of the neighborhoods right outside of Old Town. Communities like Del Ray and North Ridge offer more spacious single-family homes with yards. Overall, Alexandria is one of the priciest places to live in Northern Virginia, but the cost just may be worth the lifestyle that comes with living there.
Springfield is simply an overall great choice. You’ll have easy access to the interstate, and the drive to the Pentagon can take as little as 15 minutes. There’s also a VRE station, and many of life’s conveniences are right in the center of town.
Springfield is where you are going to find all of those popular and nicely remodeled mid-century homes! When you’re looking at homes for sale in Springfield, you’ll also discover many large colonial-style brick homes. Housing in Springfield is competitively priced, and most of the single-family homes have between three to five bedrooms and sit on a quarter to a half an acre of land. There’s even a good amount of new construction in the area. The new-construction homes in Springfield are much more costly, with prices starting at around one million dollars.
If you’re shocked by housing prices in Northern Virginia, you aren’t alone. To get the most for your money, we suggest looking at homes for sale in Woodbridge. The town is convenient to I-95, but it will be more of a commute - the drive to the Pentagon can take well over 30 minutes. You can reduce some of the burden by taking the VRE. The station is in the center of town, and the transit time is about 45 minutes.
When you’re looking at houses, you’ll find one- and two-story brick homes, as well as many large vinyl-sided homes built in the 90’s. There are also several new developments that offer large single-family homes and three-story townhomes. We recommend checking out neighborhoods such as River Falls, Featherstone Farms, Agnewville, and Port Potomac. Belmont Bay is one of our favorites!
If you have some interest in owning a townhome, Lorton is one of the best places to search. Some of the newer townhome communities are Gunston Hill, Laurel Crest, Laurel Hill, and Lorton Valley. The homes in these neighborhoods are on the pricier side, but many are three-stories with garages and have as much as 2,500 square feet of living space. You’ll find more reasonably priced townhomes in communities like Pohick Village, Shepherd Hills, and Washington Square. The Lorton area has developed rapidly in recent years, and there are also many brand-new townhomes and condo buildings in Lorton’s central neighborhoods.
